As a part of the HCC West Houston Institute Innovation Fellowship – Class of 2020-21, this has been a fascinating experience, and I’m very grateful for this opportunity. The focus of this fellowship was to learn a new mindset – what is innovation as well as how to be innovative. Because of the Covid pandemic, we had to do the entire fellowship online, so we were also put in the position of having to learn new methods of learning and working together.
In the fellowship, I worked on both my independent project, 21st Century Outreach for Innovative Librarians, as well as the cohort project creating a program of classes teaching innovative thinking and certifying the classes through micro credentials.
21st Century Outreach for Innovative Librarians
Thinking about how to get students to come to the library as well as expanding what librarians teach to fill in gaps in student knowledge, this project looks at new ways for academic librarians to do outreach and how this can be expanded at Houston Community College. The short video presentation explains the project. There is a LibGuide where the content of the project resides as well as a white paper which gives the details as to how this project will be executed.

This is the white paper for the project.
